How to create a functional entryway

If you have more room, having a small bench with baskets is a great idea.  This bench is where buyers could see themselves kicking off their shoes and leaving the worries of their days behind them while sliding into their comfy house slippers. Baskets hide the shoes and keeps the space looking smart.  Additionally, you could complement the room with colorful accent pillows or a seat pad.

These are actions that the vast majority of us take upon entering our home so why not set up your home to showcase the role of the entry way?

Remember buyers buy based on emotion. If you make walking in the front door a pleasant experience they will carry that good feeling throughout the rest of the home. Spend a few extra minutes and a couple dollars on making your entryway inviting and you are sure to impress!

Do you have a coat closet by the door? Have you been using it to stash all the random items? Clear it out and add one or two coats with additional matching hangers. Add a couple wall hooks on the interior of the closet and you can hang women’s purses by their handles. Buyers will be able to peek in and see exactly what that closet is for and appreciate its utility. If you do not have a coat closet by the front door, you could add a stylish coat rack to be mounted on the wall or if you prefer, you could choose a coat stand. If you do use one of these items, be sure to stage it by adding a lightweight attractive coat.  Don’t choose anything too bulky as it might make the space feel smaller.

If you do not have space for a bench, you may want to consider adding a small half-moon table against the wall. These small tables are just the right size for a fresh vase of flowers.  Try to find one with a small drawer so that your items are hidden away. You can easily drop your keys or wallet here and know exactly where to find them when you are leaving again.  This, plus an appropriately sized mirror or piece of artwork above the table, equals a truly memorable entryway.

The first steps into your home are going to make a huge impact on your buyer’s overall perception. Be sure to stage your entryway so that it shines, highlighting style but also function. Think of your normal routine when you walk into a home. If you have been wearing a coat, you will need someplace to store it. If you have a purse or keys, you would probably like to have someplace to keep those as well. Maybe you slip out of your shoes in order to limit tracking dirt into your clean home.
